Along with being named the North American Truck of the Year, the new 2011 Ford Explorer is also the first vehicle ever to feature a revolutionary new type of seat belt. Ford's cutting-edge rear inflatable seat belts are an industry first, and they have recently received the 2011 Traffic Safety Achievement Award. Town East Ford now has several new 2011 Explorer SUVs in stock and invites you down to check out this new feature for yourself!

"Ford's rear inflatable seat belt technology will enhance safety for rear seat passengers of all ages, especially young children who might be more vulnerable in crashes," said Sue Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering. "Rear inflatable seat belts - a Ford exclusive - help build on our safety leadership."

With an advanced design, this new restraint system will significantly help reduce neck, chest, and back injuries for rear-seat passengers. In the event of a frontal or side crash, the increased diameter of the inflated belt more effectively holds the occupant in the proper seating position, helping to reduce the risk of injury. The belt also diffuses crash pressure and distributes crash force energy across up to five times more of the occupant's torso to minimize injury.

Ford's longstanding commitment to safety has earned them the most top U.S. safety ratings of any automaker. This includes the most National Highway Traffic Safety Administration five-star ratings and more IIHS Top Safety Picks than any other car manufacturer. Along with their recent Traffic Safety Achievement Award, Ford's new innovative seat-belt system also received a gold medal in applied technology at the 2011 Edison Best New Product Award ceremony.
