Exhibition: Robert Smithson in Texas
Smithson traveled to Texas many times between 1966-1973, and during those visits he conceived five works of art that would have used the Texas landscape as a medium. Most of the large-scale earthworks he envisioned never made it past the proposal stage and now they are being examined for the first time in a free exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. The show features sculptures, photographs and drawings related to his Texas projects, along with a video originally filmed by his wife in 1973 that documents the creation of his sole Texas work, Amarillo Ramp.
