For Women's History Month, Ford is placing a spotlight on the ladies who helped bring the 2015 Mustang to life. Working in a variety of areas, from engineering to design and leadership, women have played an important role in the car's development.

While many people think of the Mustang as a car designed for men, a significant chunk of its buyers are female (about 32%), and many of the key players behind its creation have been women. Over the past year, the following four ladies have worked hard to develop and market the best Mustang yet.

Fun Fact: The very first Mustang buyer was a woman named Gail Brown who purchased a skylight-blue 1965 Mustang convertible.

Marcy Fisher - Vehicle Line Director

Fisher joined Ford in 1986 as an engineer, but has held many positions in the company, including that of the current Vehicle Line Director for Mustang, Explorer, Taurus, Flex and Escape. In this role, she oversees every detail of vehicle development, from initial planning to when new models hit dealership showrooms.

Melanie Banker - U.S. Marketing Manager

Bringing the Mustang to market, monitoring its performance and researching customer needs is an important role and one that Banker takes very seriously, especially because she realizes just how important this car is to Ford and muscle-car fans. "I hear from customers every day sharing the things they love about the car, and people send me pictures of themselves with their Mustangs. I get requests from 7-year-olds asking me why we make certain vehicle decisions," said Banker.

Susan Lampinen - Chief Color and Materials Designer

For the last decade, Lampinen has had the final word when it comes to choosing the Mustang's paint colors and cabin materials. She says she's "not afraid to take a risk" with the legendary car, and this is evident in her bold color choices and selection of premium materials. Over the years, she has had many favorite Mustang colors, but one of her more recent favorites is Race Red.

Michele Lubin Henney - Vehicle Integration Supervisor

Henney is a self-proclaimed performance enthusiast, so it's no surprise that she would gravitate toward a position in which she gets to frame the holistic driving experience for Ford's customers. As Vehicle Integration Supervisor, Henney is responsible for assessing and improving attributes like driver/passenger comfort, how a car sounds, how a vehicle feels when driven and more.
