The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released a list of their top used-car recommendations for teens and we're proud to announce that several Ford models were named! The IIHS put the list together because, based on a study, they found that parents weren't actually buying the safest cars for their children. To protect young drivers, who are three times more likely to get into accidents than adults, the IIHS came up with a list of recommendations that were selected based on criteria such as their safety scores and standard safety equipment. Ford was actually recommended most (in a tie), so if you're getting ready to purchase a used car for your son or daughter, you may want to consider one of these options!
Check out Town East Ford's used inventory now. Periodically, we have many of these models in stock.
2010 or later Ford Taurus ~$13,500
2009 Ford Taurus ~$9,100
2008-2009 Ford Taurus X ~$7,500
2010 or later (built after Apr. 2010) Ford Fusion ~$10,200

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety noted that every vehicle selected for their list has excellent front-crash scores and good side- and rear-collision protection. Every model also has standard Electronic Stability Control, which the IIHS called "a must" because it helps drivers maintain control of their cars even when tackling slick roads and sharp curves. In addition, while there are models with high-horsepower options, the IIHS suggested that parents select the base (or standard) engines when shopping for their teens.
*Prices above were collected from Kelley Blue Book on July 1, 2014 and are based on the price of the base trim level for each car/SUV listed and the lowest applicable model year.
