Ford has decided to invest the most amount of money in electrical vehicle factories that have ever been done in the United States. Along with their partner, a South Korean manufacturer of electric batteries, they are going to spend $11.4 billion.
In particular, Ford is going to make two plants in Kentucky and one in Tennessee. They will be able to create 129 gigawatts hours of power per year that will be usable in new Ford electric vehicles. These plants will be called BlueOval SK battery plants.
This will create as many as 11,000 new jobs in the states of Kentucky and Tennessee. This will create electric batteries for electric F-Series Ford trucks.
The problem is that, at the moment, there isn't a lot of adoption in the United States. In fact, sales of electric vehicles in the U.S. Only make up about 2 percent of global sales. There just isn't enough demand in the U.S. To get the number of electric vehicles up to where they could be.
EV Production Going Forward
Even beyond factory production, Ford is actually ramping up production of electric vehicles now with more production in their plants in Michigan and Texas. The idea is to increase consumer interest in electric vehicles in order to make a greener future. Ford is actually interested in making it so that half of all vehicles they sell by 2030 are zero-emission in order to help the environment.
The idea though is that Ford's ambitions will only be possible if they receive help from the government. The current administration is helping to the tune of billions at least, adding consumer incentives as well as helping to build electric charge points for EV machines to increase the likelihood that people will buy more and move away from vehicles dependent on fossil fuels.
Ford expects consumer demand for electric vehicles to increase by 50 percent or so by 2030, but this is obviously not guaranteed. There are many advantages of electric vehicles, including reducing emissions and even consumer points like better acceleration and increased efficiency.
