Ford and Partners Move Forward with ACCELERATE

As a foundational American automaker, Ford has consistently led the industry forward. With a brand recognized worldwide, Ford prides itself on producing top-quality vehicles and on being a major domestic employer. Recently, at the “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” summit in Michigan, Ford's leaders addressed the current challenges hindering the U.S. market and shared their comprehensive plan to resolve them.

What is “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy”?

The “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” event serves as a critical meeting point for educators, skilled trades professionals, business leaders, and policymakers to discuss the economy. The September 2026 gathering was the second in the summit's history and was hosted at the landmark Michigan Central Station. The setting was profoundly relevant to the strategic action plans formulated during the event. Painstakingly restored by 3,000 skilled laborers, Michigan Central Station is now a modern center for multi-sector solutions to close America's skilled trades deficit.

Ford actively participated in the conference, partnering with major organizations such as Dycom, The Home Depot, and The Wallace Foundation. This unified coalition is launching a national public education campaign in 2027 to encourage young Americans to enter the skilled trades. Drawing on insights from an Ad Council study, the campaign addresses the reality that 38 percent of high schoolers would consider a trade career, but only 11 percent plan to pursue one. The primary goal is to dismantle the barriers of persistent stigma and a lack of knowledge.

Ford's Action Plan

To motivate young workers and expand their access to career opportunities, Ford and its partners have outlined a comprehensive strategy. Ford Philanthropy is kicking off the initiative by increasing transportation assistance nationwide, effectively preventing mobility issues from impeding professional ambitions. Furthermore, Ford Pro is rolling out Ford Pro Advantage, an innovative certified pre-owned program for Class 1-7 commercial vehicles. Supported by a network of over 700 Commercial Vehicle Centers, the program makes commercial ownership more attainable. Lastly, coinciding with the launch of the Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation & Transformation (Michigan LIFT), Ford Philanthropy and JPMorganChase announced $550,000 in funding for Focus: HOPE, a Detroit nonprofit dedicated to education and workforce training.
