For 2021, Ford now offers the hybrid powertrain on the SE and SEL trims. Driver assistive technology features such as traffic sign recognition and adaptive cruise control join the Co-Pilot360 package.

Which Features Are Available for 2021?

The 2021 Escape features five different trims that are available with a hybrid version for all, except the S trim. In the Escape S trim, the Ford Sync 3 infotainment system comes standard, along with an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. There are two USB charging ports for convenience, and the audio system has six speakers. The SE trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a more advanced infotainment system with an eight-inch display screen, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration included. The driver's seat is power-adjustable, single-zone climate control, and heated front seats are standard.

A hybrid variant, the SE Sport, is next. The SE Sport gets a digital gauge cluster display that lets you keep track of the car's performance and a little luxury with a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SEL is the next trim in the 2021 Escape lineup. This trim has 18-inch wheels, adds a convenient remote start and parking sensors. A heated steering wheel is great for cold weather driving. A hands-free liftgate is included on the SEL as a convenience. The Titanium trim brings even more, to enjoy with dual-zone climate control. A premium sound system comes standard, additional safety technology features, LED headlights and the seats get a leather upholstery upgrade.

A Perfect Blend of Power and Fuel Efficiency

Escape offers two turbocharged gasoline engines and two hybrid engines for 2021. First, the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder pushes out 181 HP and 190 lb-ft of torque. There's a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that gets 250 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid powertrain is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, with 165 HP and 155 lb-ft of torque. The plug-in variant of the 2.5-liter, featuring two electric motors and pumps out 221 HP.

The turbo I-3 gets 27 MPG in the city and 33 on the highway. The fuel economy of the Titanium trim with the turbo I-4 is 23 MPG in the city and 31 on the highway. The hybrid gets 44 MPG in the city and 37 MPG in highway driving, with an all-electric range of almost 37 miles, and the plug-in hybrid gets an estimated combined MPGe of 100 miles.

The Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist Plus is standard on all Escape models. This suite of safety tools includes automatic emergency braking, Blind-Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Automatic High-Beams, Lane Centering, Pre-Collision Assist, a Lane-Keep System, a Voice-Enabled Navigation System, and Speed Sign Recognition.
